I recently listened to an online livestream of the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra concert at Severance Hall, where they played Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony under the baton of Jahja Ling. And, of course, the audience applauded after the 3rd movement! Personally, I don't mind people clapping in between movements, but I know others may not think so.
